sloppyMy cell phone buzzes. The number is strange. The voice though is very familiar, but I can't place it. A couple of "hello"s and I still don't recognize it! Finally, I apologize and ask the voice to identify itself. And i'm baffled to realize it was someone who calls me day in and day out! Shucks! And I follow up with more profuse apologies!
Nope. I didn't suffer an amnesia attack or something. All I did was do an emergent SIM transplant. ( yes, SIM as in the cell phone SIM).
Having forgotten my cell phone charger in a distant land and my phone out of charge, I had no choice but to use an old phone I had on me, and yes, when I transplanted the SIM, what came of it was that instantly many of my friends and family turned strangers!! -yep, almost like I'd suffered an attack of amnesia !
Because, suddenly there were more 'number(s) calling' than 'name(s) calling'. And every number looked to be that of a stranger ! ..naturally requiring me to accept it like I would a stranger's call.. and think I've said more sorrys today to my near and dear ones than I have in months put together!
The feeling, if anything, was incapacitating at the least, not to mention irritating. And I chided myself for taking too much for granted.. and undermining the importance of memorizing ( in one's head) the important details about important people in your life and not foolishly relying on gizmos to do it for you. hmph.
Meanwhile, guess i'll just have to bite the bullet when my phone rings next...
Thats strange alright !!!You should normally recognise a voice , intonation or nature of greetings from people you speak to often over the cell.That you didnt can only mean that you do depend on the gizmo too much .Remember the sharp sense of hearing of the people who unfortunately cant see .
Well the only thing I can say , is to remember that you get to know many things through observation.The eyes tell more than any thing else about a persons inner thoughts , so do many mannerisms, voice changes and even changes in expression . All these observations also add to hugely increased interest levels.
