HIGH AND DRY

Yup. That would perfectly sum up the feelings of Indian cricket fans (especially those perched high up on the arches of the stadium here in Cochin) who saw the Indians succumb to the mighty Aussies in the 2nd ODI. Especially, following a really promising start, bowling-wise and batting-wise. Hmm. Guess somethings never change.

I was a cricket buff ages ago- 20 yrs ago to be precise.. and over the years weaned myself off of the game when victory began to sound alien to us.
A week back though, strangely, my interest in cricket underwent a resurrection of sorts with T20.  And after a goosebumpy victory over Australia and Pakistan, I was thinking my passion was here to stay.

But the page had to turn. Like it always does.
And T20 gave way to regular cricket. And instantly, i began to feel a tinge of the bitter aftertaste from yesteryears.
Have our players improved? Does clinching a World Cup mean we can play better cricket now ? Would we have a positive attitude and play as a team and play to win, like we just did??
I badly wished someone assured me with a big YES, but my gut seemed to think the opposite.

The 2nd ODI is done and here's how i feel :

Going yum with the T20 victory pie,
And with hopes pinned almost sky high,
I tuned into the ODI...
But now am left high and dry!

We could play better cricket  thought I..
But gosh! we're still the same! Oh, sigh!
We can win, but just when'll we truly try?!
World Cup Champs and us?- Now, thats a white lie !

I think i need another T20 match pronto to cheer up my spirits.
How about you?
